Westside Winos and restaurateur Jared Meisler team up to open Offhand Wine Bar in Santa Monica

West Side Winosthe Los Angeles-based wine and music collective formed by Khalil Kinsey, Justin Leathers and Teron Stevensonand Jared Meisler (Nueva, Roger Room, Bar Lubitsch, The Friend, The Little Friend) today announced the opening of Casual wine bar. Located in the Santa Monica neighborhood known as University Streets, Offhand will offer a carefully curated selection of natural wines with an emphasis on West Coast producers. Doors open Thursday, October 20.

Offhand Wine Bar will offer a rotating list of natural wines by the glass, as well as craft beers, natural sakes and wine-based cocktails – a bottle shop will also offer a selection of wines available to take away or enjoy on site. The bar will also offer a light menu showcasing local ingredients and artisan products created by the chef Ralph Johnson (The Spotted Pig, The Pikey Public House).

The bright and vibrant space will highlight art and photography from local artists, with the first series featuring the work of photographer and editor Vic Brown. In the coming months, Offhand will also partner with local chefs, restaurants, vendors, winemakers and DJs to host pop-up food, wine and music experiences.

Westside Winos was formed in 2019 through a mutual love of wine, food and music. The collective began hosting pop-up wine tastings at the Friend Bar in Silverlake, where Stevenson and Leathers are GM/Partner and Beverage Director. Through a lighthearted approach to wine education rooted in inclusion and accessibility, Westside Winos has helped create and connect a community of next-generation wine lovers. The success of the events of Friends bar leads to a series of quarterly dinners with Loam’s Restaurant (Ace Hotel DTLA), events with SoHo House, merchandise, a recently released wine collaboration with Amplify Wines, and more.

Stevenson and Kinsey are also co-founders of Natural action, a subscription wine club whose proceeds are donated to educational and career opportunities in the wine industry for Black and Indigenous people of color. Kinsey is also Chief Curator/Executive Director of the acclaimed Kinsey African American Art & History Collection, an award-winning traveling museum exhibit with an ongoing screening at SoFi Stadium.

Offhand Wine Bar will operate in the same building as the recently opened Meisler’s Please Enjoy, a specialty cafe that will serve customers during the day.
