Major food group brings Contessa from Boston to Miami’s Design District – Business Observer


Major food group will open its new restaurant concept in Miami later this week in the Design District.

The hit band behind Carbon and dirty french will open countessan Italian restaurant launched for the first time in Boston, in a two-story corner building in 111 NE 41st Street.

“We wanted to create our idealized version of a glamorous northern Italian wine bar,” said Jeff Zalaznick, one of three partners that run Major Food Group. “We wanted to celebrate the whole region from Florence to the north of the country.”

The 15,010 square foot location is owned by Dacrathe company run by the creator of Design District Craig Robin.

Contessa is Major Food Group’s third restaurant, which is also led by chefs Mario Carbon and Rich Torrisi, brings to Miami’s Design District, all three located on the same block. Down the east block The ZZ Cluba members-only area that will soon be expanded to twice its current size, and on the next block, to 69 NE 41st Streetthe catering group opens a At Sadelle’s brunch with retailer Kith.

The restorers were on an expansion tear recently and has opened numerous restaurants in South Florida — as well as around the world — over the past two years, starting with the first Carbone location outside of the Manhattan original, which opened in South Beach in January 2021.

“Carbone is Italian-American. It’s New York Italian, it’s red sauce,” Zalaznick said. “Contessa is not. It’s refined and elegant Northern Italian cuisine served in a relaxed and fun setting.

The Manhattan location helped put Major Food Group on the map, but Carbone lost its michelin star in the latest ranking, released earlier this month. “I don’t feel bad at all,” Zalaznick said. “We have never cooked for Michelin.”
