Meijer opens a condensed store concept that is “convenient by design”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Midwest grocer Meijer introduces a new convenience store in condensed format, opening two locations in southeast Michigan. The concept is called Meijer Grocery and, according to the company, the stores will “provide convenience to customers seeking a streamlined shopping experience, while providing communities with easier access to fresher food.”

The concept is the retailer’s latest since introducing the neighborhood market’s small-format concept in August 2018 with the opening of Bridge Street Market on the west side of Grand Rapids.

Meijer grocery stores are “convenient by design,” ranging from 75,000 square feet to 90,000 square feet and will include basic grocery shelves in a condensed, quick-to-navigate footprint. The parking lot will wrap around a singular corner entrance to maximize the number of parking spaces near the door.

“We are excited to offer our customers another way to shop,” said Don Sanderson, Group Vice President of Foods at Meijer. “This new store concept will not only provide our customers with everything they need on their weekly shopping spree, but also a quick and easy solution when they realize they forgot the key ingredient on their list while shopping. dinner.”

Meanwhile, Au Bon Pain presents a new store design that builds on customer demand for convenient, off-site shopping, according to Ampex Brands, Au Bon Pain’s parent company.

“Enhancing the appearance of our locations is essential to our ‘Back to Bright’ campaign,” Au Bon Pain President Ericka Garza said in a statement. “We decided to pursue our promise to serve delicious food in a friendly, fast and clean environment and to create an exceptional customer experience. The Café du Futur visually represents the goal of our brand.

The new design includes an order station, self-service bakery and take-out areas aimed at increasing efficiency for customers who wish to “in and out”.

“Our new cafes give customers on the go what they crave and deserve – artisanal, delicious, fast food – while also providing a beautiful space for customers who want to stay awhile,” Garza said.

Au Bon Pain recently launched a take-out kiosk design, catering to the offsite customer, and the first kiosk opened last year at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York.

Ampex Brands purchased Au Bon Pain from Panera Bread in 2021 and operates 7-Eleven locations and is a Yum Brands franchisee.
