New Towson restaurant focuses on Asian market-style street food

A new restaurant has opened in Towson that focuses on Asian market-style street food.Street Food by Water Song is the second restaurant for owner Cheng “Colin” Liang, who opened his first location during the pandemic.Now Liang cooks up recipes at a take-out restaurant on West Chesapeake Avenue intended to take customers on a flavor profile through an Asian market. I’ve traveled to Thailand, Vietnam – and I really enjoy the vibe of the night market there, which is late night food, people running together,” said Liang. Liang, who comes from ‘a province in southern China, first came to the United States in 2014 – and he missed his family’s recipes. I couldn’t find him. So how can I do this? I gotta do it,” Liang said. “So I started learning all the recipes. I call my mother, I call my grandmother to say: ‘I want to make this dish, can you show me?’ (There were) tons of FaceTimes on one dish. “Some dishes include lemongrass ribs which are now on the menu. My aunt shared this with me because it’s my favorite dish,” Liang said. “We call it, like, hash browns. street.” Liang opened his first restaurant in Federal Hill days after Maryland closed in 2020. He thanks the community for helping him stay afloat during the pandemic. Hopes to further share his passion in a way that pays homage to its roots.”The taste, the flavor, the texture, I want to copy that and present it here,” Liang said. Street Food by Water Song is open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and the Saturday caters to the college crowd.

“All the stories start when I was traveling (to) different countries — I’ve traveled to Japan, I’ve traveled to Thailand, Vietnam — and I really enjoy the vibe of the night market there, which is late night food, people running together,” Liang said.

Liang, from a southern Chinese province, first came to the United States in 2014 – and missed his family’s recipes.

“I was a foodie all the time. I love food, even different food. But when I came to the United States, I was really, really (sick of the country) for my hometown food. and I couldn’t find it. So how can I do this? I have to make it,” Liang said. “So I started learning all the recipes. I call my mother, I call my grandmother to say: ‘I want to make this dish, can you show me?’ (There were) tons of FaceTimes on one dish.”

Street Food by Water Song is open from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and Saturday is for students.
