Universal Parks Cookbook Has Harry Potter-Inspired Recipes

Universal Studios fans who can’t stop thinking about pumpkin juice, Big Pink donuts, and Who Hash from the parks — there’s a new cookbook just for you.

Ashley Craft’s “The Unofficial Universal Theme Parks Cookbook” arrives October 25. Craft is the same person behind “The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook”, which was released in November 2020. Craft is also known for her blog AshleyCrafted.com, where she shares even more recipes and projects to help fans bring back the magic of home parks.

The Universal Cookbook includes over 75 recipes inspired by or reinventing food and beverages from Universal parks. IP franchises with recipes in the new Craft book include Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Jurassic Park, Minions, Despicable Me, Dr. Seuss, and The Mummy.

There are also dozens of recipes not tied to an IP address, but fan favorites from Universal Studios Florida and Hollywood, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay. Calling all fans of the lamb burgers at Mythos restaurant and Waturi Fusion ice cream at Volcano Bay.

There are also a few dishes inspired by those at Today Café (Cinnamon Sugar Cruffins, Overnight Oats, Vegan Elderberry Croissants) Finnegan’s Bar & Grill (Potato and Onion Webbs) and Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights (Grilled Elote with Tajin).

“As with the Disney books I’ve written, I seek to provide recipes for the most iconic and popular dishes found in the Parks. So for Universal, I’ve visited the parks countless times and asked servers and crew tons of questions to get an idea of ​​what people order the most,” Craft wrote in an e-mail. -mail to Attractions. “I also do a lot of research online, looking for what people are posting and on Instagram.”

For many fans, food, drink and other culinary creations inspired by entertainment franchises are among the most beloved experiences at the parks. Theme park foods can be attractions in themselves, transporting fans to the Weasley Wizard Wheezes joke shop with Nosebleed Nougat and Fever Fudge, and the world of Dr. Seuss with Who Hash and Moose Juice.

Some of these recipes, like butterbeer in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, are also well-kept secrets. As such, fans like Craft had to get creative with ingredients and flavors to get as close to the real thing as possible.

“I don’t have any ‘inside information’ on any recipe, so I check them all the same way!” Taste it in the parks, take lots of notes, come home and tinker around until the flavor and appearance match the parks,” Craft said. “I think all of these recipes are very close approximations to what you get at the parks, using only ingredients and equipment that you can easily have on hand at home.”

Although butterbeer isn’t included, Craft has written 20 Harry Potter-inspired recipes for its “Unofficial Universal Theme Park Cookbook.” This includes pumpkin juice, cakes and pastries, as well as pub-style fare featured at The Hog’s Head and The Leaky Cauldron.

There are also recipes for making your own love potion, fire protection potion, and Felix Felicis, aka Liquid Luck.

Craft said one of the more complex recipes was for Fishy Green Ale, which can be found at the Hopping Pot inside Diagon Alley. The creamy mint drink features vibrant blueberry pearls representing fish eggs on the bottom.

Craft said Fishy Green Ale “has a very unique flavor profile” as a “mint and cinnamon drink with bursting pearls of blueberry.”

“I’ve ordered this drink multiple times to dial in the flavor!” she says.

Beyond the Wizarding World, fans of The Simpsons can recreate giant donuts sprinkled with Big Pink, the famous Krusty Burger, Springfield’s signature drink Flaming Moe and Duff a L’Orange Sparking Beverage.

Craft said her recipes from The Simpsons, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and Minions were among her favorites. The Roasted Pernil dish, which you can get from Jurassic Park’s Thunder Falls Terrace in Islands of Adventure, was one of the most difficult dishes for Craft to recreate.

“It’s a Caribbean and South American dish that a lot of families make and pass down recipes from generation to generation. I wanted to honor the food and make it as authentic as possible,” she said.

While all of the recipes were fun to recreate, when asked to choose just one from each of the IP addresses represented in his book, Craft said:

Craft’s “Unofficial Universal Theme Parks Cookbook” does a great job of bringing the tastes of the parks to your kitchen. Along with the recipes, the book also includes a little history of the Universal parks and IP franchises featured therein.

The inclusion of guides to cooking basics, tools and measurements makes this cookbook accessible and engaging for all ages.
